The redesign and development of Inmarsat’s web site celebrating their annual technical sponsorship of the Volvo Ocean Race


The 2017 Volvo Ocean Race is the 13th edition of the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race and I was invited to collaborate with Inmarsat’s global digital marketing team to redesign and redevelopment their partner website for the year long race.

A key factor in the update to the web site was identifying a number of changes to this edition of the race made by Volvo. The 13th edition of the race would allow sailors to provide social media updates to their legion of followers. This change proved to be the seed for the foundations of the rebuild with the front end of the site being redesigned to hold a multi channel/multi account social wall.

With a very short lead time to push the site live Scrum methodologies were used to ensure all areas of the design and build stayed on track. To ensure timely sign off of submitted content during design phase of the project a series of rapid prototyping rounds featuring responsive/interactive wireframes were delivered and expedited decisions from the stakeholder group.
